First-floor renovations are making room for new spaces for our middle and high school youth ministries. The space that housed the nursery until the creation of our Child Care Center in 2017 is undergoing a transformation thanks to a generous $120,000 gift from John Boardman and his children, Scottie Boardman House, Holly Boardman Burton, Beth Boardman Grant and Cathy Boardman, made in celebration of the life of their mother, John’s wife Marilyn.
This fall, our youth programs will move from the third floor to new spaces that will include a large full-group meeting room, a breakout room for the high school group and four showers (one of them handicapped accessible) that will make the space much friendlier for diocesan events as well as parish events, including Youth@Convention, Happenings and lock-ins. The renovations have been in the planning for about a year and construction began in June.
“The youth and I are excited to have our own space and very grateful for the generous donation that has made this possible,” says Tray Light, minister to youth. Furniture will also move down two floors to the new rooms, and unused storage space in the choir vesting room across the hall will house youth equipment.
“The space will be more conducive to full-group activities,” says Tray, and will be home base for weekly youth games, activities, discussions and planning sessions.
