Following General Convention 79

The General Convention of The Episcopal Church begins July 5 and continues through July 13. St. John’s parishioner Billy Kingery is one of this summer’s lay deputies, and will be sending updates over the next couple weeks which we’ll post here on We Gather.

Following are resources for following General Convention (hover for hyperlinks):

Inside General Convention and the GC79 Media Hub includes links to live streams of worship, TEConversations, the House of Deputies, the House of Bishops and press briefings.

Two television shows will be broadcast from GC79, one in English (“Inside General Convention”) and one in Spanish (“Adentro de la convención general”) – they can both be found here (read more, including the press release announcement and bios of the hosts, on the Episcopal Cafe here).

The Episcopal Church’s General Convention page includes schedules, Blue Book reports, legislative information and more. Blue Book downloads are here.

The House of Deputies News will be reporting throughout GC (on Twitter here).

Episcopal News Service and Episcopal Cafe are among the Episcopal-rooted publications reporting from GC79.

The Reverend Scott Gunn, executive director of Forward Movement, has been blogging about General Convention at Seven Whole Days.

The Episcopal Herald, out of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, is covering GC79 here.

The Diocese of Southwestern Virginia will be posting video and blog updates through its social media – keep an eye on Facebook here and here and on Twitter.

The Diocese of Virginia re-launches its blog, Center Aisle, which has covered General Conventions since 2000.

Lots of conversation is happening on the unofficial General Convention Facebook group here and Episcopal Cafe tends to have lively discussions on its Facebook page here.

If you’re on social media, follow and use the #GC79 hashtag to be part of informal conversations at and around General Convention.

Episcopal News Service is publishing a social media feed of tweets and Instagram posts from that hashtag at this link.

Priest Pulse is producing day-by-day audio conversations on General Convention here.

And… there’s an app for that! Download the Convention app here.

The Episcopal Church is gathering prayers for each day’s Eucharist! You can submit online.
