Every year, United Thank Offering gifts are given to Episcopal and Anglican parishes throughout the U.S. and world for church projects that serve as the hands of Christ.
This year, St. John’s gave a total gift of $519.48 from our United Thank Offering Ingathering. Thanks to all who participated in this important work. The funds go toward the Domestic & Foreign Missionary Society, a part of the national Episcopal Church since 1871, founded at about the time Virginian Lottie Moon arrived in China to begin her 40-year missionary work there.
Projects are funded according to the amount collected each year. In 2016, for instance, $66,620 went to Guizhou Province in China to help a village construct a sewage ditch and install disposal tanks to properly handle clean water treatment. In addition, $22,775 was sent to Grace Point Camp and Retreat Center in Kingston in the Diocese of East Tennessee. Those funds helped remodel an old barn on the center’s property into an outdoor education center where chickens, goats and honeybees will provide hands-on experiences with God’s essential creatures and allow visitors to learn about the wildlife in the area, including American bald eagles, red fox and ospreys.
New UTO Blue Boxes are available on the table near the gathering area. Act upon a life of gratitude and collect coins in the box for the UTO Ingathering in 2018.
Thanks be to God!
